Digital music purchases are generally non-refundable once a download has been accessed. Here's how our refund process works and what it means for you as an artist.
Our refund policy
BuyMyTune's default position is that digital downloads are non-refundable once the buyer has accessed them. This is consistent with UK consumer digital goods rules, which allow traders to exclude the right of withdrawal once digital content delivery has started (with the buyer's agreement).
However, we handle refunds on a case-by-case basis in genuine situations, such as:
- A fan was charged twice due to a technical error.
- A purchase was made fraudulently (e.g. stolen card).
- The download never worked and the fan couldn't access their purchase.
What happens to your earnings when a refund is issued
If BuyMyTune approves a refund:
- The fan's payment is reversed.
- If the sale was still in the holding period, the earnings are cancelled before they were ever available to you — no action needed.
- If the earnings had already moved to available, the refund amount is deducted from your future payouts.
You'll see a refund event in your Payouts transaction history.
What you can do
Refund decisions are made by BuyMyTune, not by you as an artist. If a fan contacts you directly about a refund, point them to /contact and we'll handle it.
If you believe a refund was processed incorrectly, contact us with the transaction details and we'll review it.
Common questions
A fan is saying my music didn't download — what should I tell them? Ask them to check Where are my downloads? and if still stuck, tell them to use /contact.
Can a fan dispute a charge via their bank (chargeback)? Yes. If a fan raises a chargeback with their bank, the charge is reversed by the card network. BuyMyTune will deduct the chargeback amount from your earnings and may charge an additional dispute fee to cover processing costs.
