Transparent pricing

How the money works

No surprises. No mystery deductions. Here is exactly where every pound goes, from the moment a fan pays to the moment you receive it.

Worked example

Fee breakdown

A fan buys a release priced at £10.00 before VAT. Here is where it goes.

WhatAmount
Fan pays (incl. UK VAT)£12.00
UK VAT (20%)−£2.00
Net after VAT£10.00
PayPal processing fee≈ −£0.29 + 2.9%
BuyMyTune fee (15%)−£1.50
Artist receives≈ £8.21

PayPal fees vary. The figures above use PayPal's standard UK rate as a guide. The actual amount may differ by a few pence per transaction. VAT is only charged to buyers in the UK and certain other jurisdictions, so international sales may differ.

Our commitments

What we will never do

We are making some commitments here, publicly. Hold us to them.

  • Sell or share fan data with third parties
  • Hide fees or change platform fees without notice
  • Force opaque subscription tiers to unlock basic functionality
  • Train AI models on your uploaded audio or artwork without explicit opt-in
  • Lock you in. Artists can remove releases and close accounts at any time
  • Take ownership or co-ownership of your music

What the platform fee helps pay for

What the platform fee helps pay for

Our 15% platform fee helps run BuyMyTune. Here is what it goes towards.

  • Secure file hosting — Masters stay private. Buyers only receive downloads after payment is confirmed.
  • Preview and download infrastructure — We create short previews, protect full files, and generate secure download links.
  • Payment and payout records — We keep a clear record of sales, VAT, fees, refunds, and artist balances.
  • Support and product development — The fee helps us maintain the service, improve artist tools, and support buyers and artists when something needs fixing.

Getting paid

Payout rules

Timing

Funds from a sale enter your earnings balance after a short holding period to allow for potential chargebacks. Once cleared, you can request a bank transfer at any time from your artist dashboard.

Minimum threshold

The minimum payout amount is £20. Once your available balance reaches that threshold you can request a bank transfer from your artist dashboard.

Chargebacks and disputes

If a buyer raises a PayPal dispute and it is upheld, the corresponding amount is reversed from your earnings balance. We will notify you before any reversal. Excessive chargeback rates may result in account review.

Bank changes

You can update your payout bank details from the artist dashboard at any time. Pending payouts in transit are not affected by a bank change, only new payout requests use the updated details.

All the details are in our Terms of Service. Questions? See the artist FAQ.
