Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy sets out what you may and may not do on BuyMyTune. It applies to everyone who uses the platform: artists, buyers, and visitors. Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or account termination.

1. The short version

BuyMyTune is a marketplace for independent music. Use it for that. Do not use it to harm people, break the law, steal content, or cheat the platform or its users. The sections below explain in detail what is prohibited.

2. Prohibited conduct

Hate and harassment

Content that promotes, glorifies, or incites hatred against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic. Content that is designed to harass, bully, threaten, or intimidate any person.

Illegal content

Content that is unlawful in the United Kingdom or the jurisdiction in which it is uploaded or consumed. This includes, but is not limited to, content that violates obscenity laws, child protection laws, or anti-terrorism legislation.

Fraud and deception

Using BuyMyTune to conduct fraudulent transactions, launder money, exploit chargebacks, or misrepresent the nature or origin of content. Creating fake reviews, fake purchase records, or artificial play counts.

Copyright infringement

Uploading, distributing, or selling content you do not own or have a licence to sell. Uploading samples, remixes, cover recordings, or arrangements without the appropriate synchronisation, mechanical, or master use licences. See our Copyright Policy for how to report infringement.

Misleading identity

Impersonating another artist, band, label, or public figure. Creating an artist profile designed to confuse fans into purchasing from a fake account. Using another artist's name, likeness, or branding without their authorisation.

Malware and harmful code

Uploading files that contain or are designed to deliver malware, spyware, viruses, or any other harmful code. Attempting to exploit vulnerabilities in BuyMyTune's infrastructure.

Spam and unsolicited communications

Using any data obtained through BuyMyTune (including buyer email addresses or order information) to send unsolicited commercial communications. Using automated bots or scripts to interact with the platform in a way that degrades performance or circumvents rate limits.

Circumventing technical controls

Attempting to access, download, or redistribute audio files by bypassing signed download URL protections. Attempting to access another user's account, private data, or purchase entitlements without authorisation.

3. Content standards

All content uploaded to or associated with BuyMyTune (including audio, artwork, artist names, and artist page content) must:

Be content that the uploader has the legal right to distribute;
Not be deliberately misleading about its origin, genre, or nature;
Not contain gratuitous or unlawful violent or sexual content.

4. Reporting violations

The quickest way to flag a problem is the Report button on any release or artist page. You do not need an account to report, and we never tell the uploader who reported them. Each report is logged and reviewed by our team.

5. Consequences of violations

Depending on the severity and nature of a violation, we may:

Remove the offending content;
Issue a formal warning;
Temporarily suspend your account;
Permanently terminate your account;
Withhold payout balances pending investigation;
Report the violation to relevant law enforcement authorities.

We will use reasonable judgement in determining the appropriate response. Severe violations (e.g. illegal content, fraud) may result in immediate termination without prior notice.

6. Appeals

If you believe your content was removed or your account was actioned in error, you may appeal by contacting us at the address below. We will review appeals within a reasonable timeframe and notify you of the outcome.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes. Continued use of BuyMyTune after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
